A Practice of Interbeing

Three Core Modules

coherence | co-conscious creativity | intersubjective sense-making

A Message from Elizabeth Debold

After much consideration, we have decided to cancel the Emergent Dialogue 3 Module program for 2025-2026. It was a hard decision to make. But my beloved teaching and life partner, Thomas Steininger, has been fighting brain cancer for two and a half years and it is now clear that the cancer has won. While I tried to go ahead with the program, I cannot care for the program and for Thomas's departure from this world and give each what is deserved.

We will not offer this program again until Fall 2026, however, there are other opportunities to learn about Emergent Dialogue and Interbeing. First, we have an Open Interbeing Lab the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm CET (1:30pm EST). This is a free monthly introduction to discovering Interbeing through dialogue.

I hope that you will join us in co-creating new human potentials through Interbeing.
interbeing

is a new collective human potential born out of the Wholeness that is our deeper nature. “Interbeing” is just that: a being or living presence that comes alive between and in and through us. The cultivation of Interbeing gives rise to a co-conscious creativity that brings our diverse perspectives into synergy and deeper meaning. Interbeing is emergent, meaning that it is something new and surprising that arises out of the not-already-known. And it depends on us, on human choice, to realize its potential.

interbeing

is first experienced as a field of shared presence that comes alive through our awareness of what is between us. The human longing for wholeness, connection, and depth transforms into a creative life force when we each dare to open ourselves to the heart’s deepest demand. Through dialogue—the most human gift of language--engaging with and from this space between, we then discover a synergistic intelligence that allows us to co-consciously create together.

Emergent Dialogue brings Interbeing to life.

emergent dialogue

is a practice that enables groups to open the field of Interbeing and to cultivate the capacity to co-create with its intelligence. While experiencing the collective presence of Interbeing is powerful and even described as sacred, the power of this practice is to discover new creative potentials and capacities of co-leadership with an intelligence greater than any individual.  Through this collective practice, you become an agent of emergence, discovering how to synergize diversity from the ground of wholeness and thereby become a force for deep individual and cultural change.

emergent dialogue

is not simply another "we space" process or relationship technique but instead is the fulfillment of what these methods point to--a new direction in human and cultural development. This practice shows a new possibility for collective sensing and sense-making that includes and transcends the individual. It points to a way that our uniqueness can cohere and synergize in a complex unity that does not depend on agreement. We co-create a diversity-in-unity rooted in a sense of the sacred.

about the program

In the practice of emergent dialogue, the present field of our interrelatedness becomes self-aware. It was our personal self-awareness that birthed our individuality. It is the self-awareness of the field that births our Interbeing.
Thomas Steininger

Transforming culture...

This is an invitation to transform culture through your own transformation. Not only is this practice a means to transform and enliven the work you do with others, it is also in itself an answer to the increasing limitations and dangers of the modern Western mode of thinking and being. The ongoing practice of Emergent Dialogue—carried into your life and work, relationships and projectsbecomes part of a radical experiment to shift the axis of Western culture from separation and division to entangled, interdependent interconnectedness.

This work is a clear instance of the advent of the sacred.
It's paradigmatic.
John Vervaeke

As a practitioner of Emergent Dialogue, you join in a bottom-up process of creating transformative micro-cultures grounded in the sacredness of Life itself. Joy, intimacy, awe, freedom, and collective insight are unleashed between us. You learn to synergize complexity from wholeness. Learning how to perceive and become available to this dynamic interbeing is the foundation of a new, transindividuated self sense—one that includes and transcends our individuality. Through developing your capacity to live emergent interbeing, your relationships and projects become part of a network of experiments that can lay the foundation for the future.

Spirit is not in the I but between I and You.

About the Program

The Emergent Dialogue program is a practice program, led by practitioners. While understanding the cultural and philosophical context of Interbeing is important, the experience of Interbeing through Emergent Dialogue is far more important. You have to sense, taste, feel, and be the change.

As this is a collective practice program, it is lead by a team of experienced practitioners. Dr. Elizabeth Debold heads the team that features several Core Team members (Mike Kauschke, Marlene Potthoff, Nadja Rosmann, Maria Zacherl) along with aspiring Catalysts with a minimum of three years of experience. It has taken us well over a decade to develop a team that can reliably hold and catalyze the emergence of Interbeing. Throughout, we have been guided by the depth and insight of Dr. Thomas Steininger, who will not be joining us this year due to a severe health crisis.

The Emergent Dialogue practice program is divided into three Modules that create a sequence that goes deeper into the practice of working with Interbeing through dialogue.

Should you take one or all three Modules?

Continued practice in a supportive environment is the only way to develop the capacity to catalyze the emergence of Interbeing.

If you want to learn to sense the field of Interbeing, join us in the first Module. For some, just having the experience of the field is enough to transform one’s trust in Life.

If you want to develop the capacity to co-consciously create with each other through Interbeing, join us for all three Modules.

The first two Modules focus on the experience of Interbeing and how to sense and align with it. This is a necessary foundation for the ability to work with Interbeing and co-lead with its synergistic intelligence. The third Module is driven by the participants. Cultural or philosophical questions or further inquiry into the Emergent Dialogue practice may be taken up.
Module 1: The Emergence of Coherence
We start by developing the capacity to sense the subtle living field between us. Through this process, we become aware of its qualities and what it takes to bring it alive in the space between us. We discover a new orientation to life from Wholeness that is bigger and beyond the group.
Module 2: The Emergence of Co-Conscious Creativity
The next step is to learn how to align with and allow the intelligence of the field to work with us as we learn to work from it. We learn to co-create with Interbeing through dialogue. Our awareness shifts from a focus on ourselves to the space between. We explore how to sense the creative impulse from the Whole and how to become available to its synergistic intelligence.
Module 3: The Emergence of Intersubjective Sense-Making
In the third Module, we practice living interbeing through dialogue and engage with polarizing topics and new capacities of co-intelligence and intersubjective sense-making. You will explore a new Interbeing practice, Interbeing Tea Dialogues, where we open up questions that are compelling to participants, discovering an intimacy beyond psychology. We also investigate how to bring Emergent Dialogue to different contexts in your life.
You can take the first Module on its own. The other two Modules require that you have successfully completed the first one.

All three Modules meet on Wednesdays, 17:00 – 19:00 in Central Europe (Berlin or Paris time).

We meet using Zoom video conferencing. The first two Modules meet every other week with Elizabeth Debold and the Team. You will also be assigned to a small practice group led by an experienced Catalyst and meet together for practice on the alternate weeks. The third Module meets every week in the whole group and there are no small practice groups.

Note: if there is enough interest, there will be a Sunday Replay of the whole group sessions led by the Team for those who cannot make the Wednesday time or miss a session. The Replay is held on Sundays at 14:00 in Central Europe.

You are also given access to our social network, the Communiverse. Here you can engage with other participants, review session recordings, ask questions, and participate in Pop Up Practice sessions.
Interbeing re-integrates us in Life itself—which we discover is nothing short of an all-encompassing, creative love.
