SESSION 3

Radical Openness

November 24, 2021

Our focus for this session is on radical openness. In some contexts, this means an emotional expressiveness. In emergent dialogue, the openness that we are seeking is an openness of consciousness, an un-fixed awareness that senses both the inner and outer, free of strong identifications. The more deeply we are able to be open, to let go, the more we become available for the potential of the space between.

We find that meditation is a wonderful training in radical openness. Learning to let go of the habits of mind in ever deeper ways enables you to be in service to the deeper intelligence that lives between us. Through letting go together, the field of awareness between us becomes stronger. Coherence in the presence of difference becomes palpable. It is this coherence that is the mysterious ground of emergent dialogue. It allows us to engage in conversation from a place of nonseparation–the nonseparation that deep meditation reveals to us.

The question we focused on in the session was:

How can meditation help to cultivate sensing beyond mind?

In this question, we are making a distinction between the conceptual, abstract powers of mind and the direct perception or knowing rooted in the experience of the moment.

During the period of this session, and ideally during the program as a whole, we invite you to explore meditation as a practice and to investigate the power of letting go in the many situations of your life.
